Medicaid Nurse Aide (MNA) Program
Thank you for your interest in the Medicaid Nurse
Aide (MNA) Program. This one course program is designed specifically
for employees of long-term care facilities. It will provide
knowledge and skills for nurse aides to assume the role and
responsibility required in long-term care. The focus of this course
is communication, infection control, safety, residents’ rights, and
basic nursing skills and is designed for degree seeking students
specifically in the health career field. The 1987 Omnibus
Reconciliation Act (OBRA) mandated education and competency
evaluation for all nurse aides employed by Medicaid reimbursed LTC
nursing facilities in all states. This course complies with the
applicable Medicaid regulation (42 CFR 483.152) that requires a
75-hour nurse aide training program to include a minimum of sixteen
(16) hours of supervised on-site clinical instruction.
Specifically, this course provides students with opportunities to
develop the educational and skill preparation necessary to satisfy
the requirements to take the Medicaid Nurse Aide State Competency
Examination. This course is based upon the Federal and State
guidelines that prescribe the course content for Nursing Assistants
to work in a long-term care environment. Recent changes have made
this course a prerequisite for many nursing programs.
