Surgical Technology

Surgical Technologists most often function as members of the surgical team in a sterile environment.  During surgery, they anticipate the needs of the surgeon, pass instruments and provide other sterile items, as well as directly assist by handling tissue, using instruments and providing wound exposure within the operating field.

The program is designed to provide the basic knowledge and skills to function in a modern preoperative suite.  The curriculum consists of instruction in specialized courses and concentrated study in theory and lab practice.  Clinical experience in area hospitals prepares the student for an integral role on the preoperative staff.  The program is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Association of Surgical Technologists.
