programs are available to eligible veterans and their dependents.
These include:
CHAPTER 30
(Montgomery GI Bill/Active Duty Educational Assistance Program)

CHAPTER 31 (Vocational
Rehabilitation)

Under this program, educational benefits are provided to service
connected-disabled veterans to assist them in achieving independence
and obtaining/maintaining employment.

CHAPTER 33
(The Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008)
-
The Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits are payable for training pursued
on or after August 1, 2009. No payments can be made under this
program for training pursued before this date.

concerning Chapter 33 benefits.

Because this program is so new; until further notice ALL
Applications for CH-33 MUST be made directly with the Department
of Veterans Affairs at
www.va.gov , once you’re in the site, please look across the
top panel, click on Apply online, then click on
Education. Please follow ALL instructions and
submit all documents required to establish your claim. If you
have any problems submitting your supporting documents, please
bring them by the VA Office here on campus and we’ll submit them
for you.
CHAPTER 35 (Survivors and Dependents
Educational Assistance Program)

Under this program, financial assistance is provided for the
education of dependents (children and spouses) of deceased or
service connected disabled veteran or MIA.

Tuition Assistance: State assistance
is available for some CH-35 students, please contact: Kentucky

CHAPTER 1606 (Montgomery GI
Bill/Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program)

members of the Selected Reserve/National Guard meeting specific
requirements.

Tuition Assistance:
CHAPTER 1607
(REAP Reserve Education Assistance Program)
-
Under this program a member of a
reserve component who serves on active duty on or after
September 11, 2001 under title 10 U.U. Code for a contingency
operation and who serves at least 90 consecutive days or more is
eligible for Chapter 1607.
-
National Guard members also are
eligible if their active duty is under section 502 (f), title 32
U.S.C. and they serve for 90 consecutive days when authorized by
the President or Secretary of Defense for a national emergency
and is supported by federal funds.
-
Individuals are eligible as soon as
they reach the 90 day point whether or not they are currently on
active duty.
-
DoD will fully identify contingency
operations that quality for benefits under Chapter 1607
-

How to Apply?
If you have never made application for your VA Educational benefits,
then you need to do the following:
CHAPTER 30 Initial Claim:

Complete VA Form 22-1990 either with the Veterans Affairs Office on
Campus or complete the Electronic Application Form.

contact your campus VA Certifying Official for additional paperwork
and general information concerning institutional processing
procedures.

If you choose to complete your paperwork through the Office of
Veterans Affairs on your campus, please bring the following with
you: the #4 copy of DD 214; Voided out Check or Deposit Slip (if you wish direct
deposit)

are eligible for VA Voc-Rehab will be assigned a VA Voc-Rehab
Specialist and this Specialist will provide our office with the
student Authorization Form (VA Form 28-1905).

The student will need to contact the Office of Veterans Affairs for
general information concerning institutional processing procedures.

If you choose to complete your form through the Veterans Affairs
Office on your campus, please bring the following with you:
DD Form 214
Copies of Orders to Active Duty
Also Annotate CHAPTER 1607 on ALL
supporting documents.

If you’ve
USED a VA Education program
previously NO new application is required, but you should submit and
have available documents such as:
DD Form 214
Copies of Orders to Active Duty
Complete VA Form 22-1995 and Annotate
CHAPTER 1607 on ALL supporting documents

When Do I apply?
-
The Office of Veterans Affairs recommends that you apply for
benefits 60 to 90 days prior to a semester starting; this gives the
Department of Veterans Affairs plenty of time to process your claim
in a timely manner.
-
The VA Regional office that processes for the
State of Kentucky processes for a total of 16 states and at times
the volume can be tremendous.
-
If you are relying on the Department of Veterans Affairs to assist
you with tuition and fees the latest you should apply is 60
days
prior to the semester starting.
-
Any student applying after the
60
day time frame should be prepared to pay their tuition and fees at
the time of registration or make payment arrangement with the
institutions Cashiers Office.
What Happens After I Apply?
-
Once you apply with the Office of Veterans Affairs, processing time
is approximately 3 to 4 days if you’ve applied for Admission
to the institution, have an applicable “Student Program Plan” for
the institution you’ve applied to for admission.
-
Initial VA claims are submitted to the Department of Veterans
Affairs by mail and the approximate processing time is about 6
to 8 weeks.
-
Once VA processes your claim they will provide you
with an Award letter outlining your monthly allowance and various
policies and procedures you need to comply with to receive VA
Educational benefits.
-
If you’ve previously used your VA benefits claim, this claim will be
processed electronically and the approximate processing time with VA
is about 15 to 20 working days.
-
Once your VA Certification is
submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).
-
The DVA will
generate to the student an email acknowledging enrollment to the
email address you submitted to the campus VA Office.
-
Once the claim
is actually processed the student will receive by mail from the
DVA
an Award Letter;
listing monthly amounts, term dates, VA Chapter specific
instructions and general information.

To receive VA Educational Benefits at this College you

fill out and sign a
“ (VEBEF) Veterans Educational Benefits Enrollment Form”
each semester with our campus Veterans Affairs Office once
you’ve officially registered for your courses.

VA Chapters 30 and 1606 are required to call in or complete an
online verification monthly before allowances are released.

Effective April 1, 2008 Chapter
1607 will be required to participate in the online monthly
verification process.

Verification by telephone is: 1-877-823-2378 IVR “Interactive Voice
Response” then follow the prompts.

Web verification: WAVE “Web Automated Verification of Enrollment”.

Tuition
Assistance is available by completing the online process at:

Deadlines are:
1 April for Summer and Fall semesters and 1
October for Spring semester
If you miss the deadlines you are locked out of the application
system. Please contact your “Readiness NCO at Unit level.

Boone National Guard Center will load this info for ALL
institutions in the State and our VA office with load this award
information for the Cashiers Office and the institutions system
to hold your classes.

Changes in location of training cannot be made by
the VA office on campus, the Guards member MUST contact Boone
National Guard Center at: 502-607-1309.

Federal Tuition Assistance pays 75% and the service member pays 25%
