What Is Appropriate To Wear To The Interview?

An interview isn't a beauty contest but your interviewer will notice how you look. Take time and care to ensure that you are making the right first impression.

For Men: A traditional business attire -- dark suit, tie, and long-sleeved pressed dress shirt.

For Women: A pant or skirt suit. Avoid wearing really short skirts or excessive jewelry.

For Everyone: Avoid wearing too much cologne or perfume. Your hair should be neat. Shoes should look neat and coordinate with your suit.

How Can I Make A Good Impression?
  • Arrive on time.
  • Know the company or organization you are interviewing with. You should research who are the key people in the organization, major products or services, organizational structure, major competitors, industry trends, and current events and/or information about the company.
  • Introduce yourself in a courteous manner and have a firm handshake.
  • Listen carefully.
  • Use body language to show interest in what is being said.(ie smile, nod, give nonverbal feedback)
  • Ask about the next step in the process.
  • Thank the interviewer for his or her time.
  • Write a thank-you letter to anyone you have spoken to. (Helpful Hint: Ask for the interviewers business card. This will ensure that you spell their name correctly, use the proper title, and send it to the correct address).

Sample "Thank You" letters: Letter 1 , Letter2

What Questions Can I Expect To Be Asked?
  • What do you see yourself doing five years from now?
  • How do you make yourself indispensable to a company?
  • What is your greatest strength?
  • What is your greatest weakness?
  • Tell me about a time when you had to work with some one who was difficult to get along with? How did you deal with the situation?
