English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are available to help students develop English language skills necessary for college-level classes.

There are 4 levels of ESL classes: beginning, low-intermediate, high-intermediate, and advanced. Classes emphasize conversation, vocabulary, reading, and writing skills. Classes are offered in the morning and in the evening to accommodate students’ schedules.

Fall semester ESL classes begin in August. Spring semester ESL classes begin in January. Typically, one intermediate ESL class is offered in the summer session between June and August.

Monday, August 3 is the deadline for a first time college student to submit an application to attend the Downtown Campus this fall. All first time college students who want to take ESL classes must submit their application by August 3^rd to begin classes this fall (August 17). Any first time college student applications received after this deadline will be accepted for Spring 2010 (January) classes only.

Follow these steps to enroll in ESL classes:

1. Complete the KCTCS application for admission.
2. Attend ESL Student Orientation.
3. Complete the ESL COMPASS placement test.
4. Meet with an ESL advisor for registration.
5. Pay tuition fees by the deadline date.
