Maria B. Miller Speech Award
Maria B. Miller, Emeritus, was the first faculty member of the Communication Department at Jefferson Community and Technical College when it opened its doors on the Downtown campus in 1968.
The Maria B. Miller Speech Award was established in her honor in 1994 after her retirement in the Fall of 1993.
Each spring the Department of Communication holds a contest to determine what graduating student will be awarded the Maria B. Miller Speech Award.
All graduating students from all Jefferson Community & Technical College campuses are invited to participate in the speech contest.
The winning student is the Student Graduation Speaker and is presented a plaque and a check in the amount of $50.
Student must be a graduating sophomore.
The speech must be 3 minutes long.
The speech is addressed to the President, Provost, guest speaker, graduates, faculty, family, and guests.
Content should be about the present achievements of the graduating class and how the institution has helped the student and other graduates accomplish goals.
