Medicaid Nurse Aide Program

The Medicaid Nurse Aide Program is a 75-hour training program that teaches students the necessary skills to work in a long-term care facility.  Kentucky law states that attendance is mandatory for the full 75 hours.  Each class is limited to 15 students.  This class is offered at the Jefferson Technical, Carrollton, and Shelby County campuses.

At the time of registration, prospective students will be required to:

  • Pay the current course fee and liability insurance fee ($425.00). 
  • Tuition is $405.00 (3 credit hours at $135.00 per credit hour) and liability insurance is $20.00.  Payment may be made by cash, check, money order or credit card (Master Card, Visa, or Discover).  If payment is made by financial aid or a third party, then acceptable documentation must be presented at enrollment.  The third party will be billed as soon as you are enrolled in class.  In some cases, if you have a third party payee, you may need to pay a $25.00 fee.
  • Bring a clean, statewide background check.  The background check can be obtained through the website for the Administrative Office of the Courts.  The cost will be $15.00 and the results are usually available in 1-2 business days.
  • Bring a negative tuberculosis skin test result.  These tests can be obtained through your personal care physician, as well as many local health clinics and immediate care centers.

Textbook: The required textbook/workbook is Mosby’s Long Term Care Nursing Assistants.  Please contact your campus for the required edition for your class.  The book must be purchased prior to the first day of class.

Class Uniform: Scrubs must be worn to class, clinical site and test date.  Scrubs are available from many outlets, including the campus bookstore.  White shoes with a closed heel and toe are also required.

If you choose to withdraw from class, you must do so at least one full working week prior to the start of class.  Failure to do so will result in no refund.

STATE CERTIFICATION TESTING

Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to take the state certification exam for one year.  Upon receiving a passing grade on the exam, they will be placed on the Kentucky Board of Nursing Registry as a Nurse Aide.

All testing registrations must be completed, in person, at Jefferson Community and Technical College Workforce Solutions Office.  At the time of registration, the $75.00 examination fee must be paid and proof of training will be collected.  The examination fee is non-refundable.

Examination results will be received by mail within 30 business days.
