Medicaid Nurse Aide Program

The Medicaid Nurse Aide Program is a 75-hour training program that teaches students the necessary skills to work in a long-term care facility.   Kentucky law states that attendance is mandatory for the full 75 hours. 

  • Each class is limited to 15 students. 
  • This class is offered at the Jefferson Technical, Carrollton and Shelby County campuses.

At the time of registration, prospective students will be required to:

  • PAY the current course fee and liability insurance fee. 
    • Tuition is $420.00.  These charges are based on in-state tuition for 3 credit hours; out-of-state tuition will be assessed for applicable students.
    • Liability insurance is $11.00 and will cover a student for one semester. 
    • There will be a $40.00 security fee charged to students that have not previously paid it. 
    • Payment may be made by cash, check, money order or credit card (Discover, MasterCard or Visa). 
    • If payment is made by financial aid or a third party, then acceptable documentation must be presented at enrollment.  The third party will be billed as soon as you are enrolled in class.  In some cases, if you have a third party payee, you may need to pay a $25.00 fee.  Please be aware that some third party payees do not cover fees, such as liability insurance and security fees.
  • BRING a clean, statewide background check.  The background check should be obtained through the website for the Administrative Office of the Courts.  The cost is $20.00 and the results are usually available in 1-2 business days.
  • BRING negative TB skin test results.  These tests can be obtained at the Louisville Metro Department of Health, 400 East Gray Street, Louisville, KY 40202.  Call 502-574-6617 for cost and appointment.  The test is also offered at Norton Immediate Care Centers and can also be obtained from your personal care physician.

Textbook: 

  • The required textbook/workbook is Mosby’s Long Term Care Nursing Assistants, 6th edition, KY version.

  • The book must be purchased prior to the first day of class and students are required to have a new copy of the workbook.
  • The current cost of the textbook/workbook package is $83.35.
Class Uniform:
  • Scrubs must be worn to class, clinical site and test date
  • Scrubs are available from many outlets, including the campus bookstore.
  • White shoes with a closed heel and toe are also required.
  • NOTE:  If you choose to withdraw from a class, you must do so at least one full working week before the class starts.  Failure to do so will result in NO REFUND.
  • Liability insurance is for your protection and this fee is non-refundable after the first day of class.

State Certification Testing

  • Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to take the state certification exam for one year. 
  • Upon receiving a passing grade on the exam, they will be placed on the Kentucky Board of Nursing Registry as a Nurse Aide.
  • All testing registrations must be completed, in person, at our office. 
  • At the time of registration, the $75.00 examination fee must be paid and proof of training will be collected.  The examination fee is non-refundable.
  • Examination results will be received by mail within 30 business days.
