Admissions Guidelines

 If you've graduated from high school, earned a GED, or are eligible to take the GED, you'll be admitted to Jefferson Community and Technical College. To enroll, you'll first need to submit an application for admission prior to the beginning of the term in which you want to enroll. If you meet the appropriate academic requirements and technical standards, you'll be considered equally for admission to the college or to any program regardless of race, color, religion, gender, marital status, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or mental or physical disability.

  • First-Time Freshmen
    • Students who have never taken college courses or who took college classes only while in high school
    • High school transcript with graduation date (contact your high school) or GED test results.
    • Placement test scores from an approved assessment, such as the COMPASS test or ACT/SAT.
    • Students who have taken the ACT/SAT may be exempt from placement testing at JCTC if they meet certain score requirements.
  • Transfer Students
    • Students who have attended a postsecondary institution regardless of whether or not any credit was earned.
    • Official high school transcript with graduation date or GED test results
    • Official transcript(s) sent from all previously attended colleges to the Admissions office, showing eligibility to return to the most recently attended college.
    • COMPASS placement results if college level math and English courses have not been completed or if you scored less than 18 in English and reading and 20 in math on the ACT.
  • Visiting Students
    • Students who are planning to attend the college for one semester only and then return to the home institution.
    • A letter of good standing from the home institution indicating the student is eligible to return to that institution. (Sometimes called a “Visiting Student Letter.”)
    • COMPASS placement results if college level math and English courses have not been completed or if the student scored less than 18 in English and reading and 20 in math on the ACT and the student plans to enroll in English 101 or math.
    • Official transcript sent from home institution if prerequisite course(s) for desired course(s) was completed at the home institution.
  • Returning Students
    • Students who were Jefferson students but left for a year or more.
    • Completed application for admission
    • All transcripts from other colleges attended
  • International Student Admission
    • International students are those who will be attending Jefferson with an F-1 student visa.
    • Students from outside the U.S. who will not be studying with an F-1 visa should follow the admissions guidelines from the above category that best describes them.
    • International students should go to the International Student Services page for more information on the admissions requirements. 

Admission to Selective Admission Programs

  • Admission into allied health programs at the college is based on selective admission criteria specific to each program.
  • If you're interested in the admission criteria for these programs, you should contact a career counselor in the Advising Center. 
  • Some general education requirements must be completed prior to admission into the programs.
  • Additional general education courses may be taken prior to admission into the programs or after enrollment in the programs.
  • All applicants meeting the appropriate academic requirements and technical standards shall be considered equally for admission to the college or to any program regardless of race, color, religion, gender, marital status, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or mental or physical disability.
