The Student Support Services Program was started at JCTC in 1977 and prides itself on a tradition of excellence in providing a series of support services and activities to 200 select students each year. SSSP is a federally funded TRIO program, designed to provide outreach programs and student services to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. The philosophy is to provide opportunities and equal access to education to people who for reasons of social, educational, economic, or racial barriers must overcome special obstacles to pursue an education.
SSSP provides its participants with academic support as well as social and culture activities that help enhance the college experience. Student participate in activities and events such as theatrical performances, museums visits, professional development opportunities and/or various cultural activities offered in the region.
SSSP considers its students part of a family and creates unity through awards ceremonies, social events and celebrations. The SSSP suite becomes the student’s home away from home when they stop by to eat lunch, do homework, use the computer or just visit with each other.
The SSSP office is located on the Downtown Campus, in the Jefferson Educational Center (JEC) building on the 3rd floor.
