JCTC Foundation awards $20,000 in scholarships

(May 26, 2011) -- The Jefferson Community and Technical College Foundation has awarded $20,000 in scholarships with proceeds raised through last year’s inaugural “Jefferson Jubilee.”

The highly successful fund-raiser led to 10 $1,500 tuition scholarships and 10 $500 textbook scholarships.  The 20 students receiving the scholarships were honored during a Foundation Board meeting at the college on May 18. The Foundation is the college’s fund-raising board.

The students were Stacy Anderson, Dawn Burns, Kevin Case, Monica Church, Robin Davidson, Keri Duncan, Megan Gregory, Robert Holliger, Paula Long, Amber Nichter Jeanine O’Bryan, Rebecca Pike, Sebastian Racine, Tabitha Rash, Alicia Ruplinger,  Michael Shunnarah, Katherine Sims, Dana Thornton, Erica Yan and Nicole Young.

Because of the substantial support of the inaugural Jefferson Jubilee, the Foundation decided to make the gala an annual event.
“The generous support of corporate sponsors and individuals have allowed more students to pursue their college dream,” said Jubilee chairman Ben W. Jackson, CPA, of The Jackson Group, LLC.  “We look forward to increasing support with the 2011 event and continuing to help more deserving students.’’

This year’s Jubilee will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, in The Grand Ballroom at The Henry Clay. More than 300 guests are expected to attend. Last year’s Jubilee sold out. The cocktail-attire event will include cocktails, a silent auction, dinner by Silver Spoon and entertainment by Bella Blue. Sponsors include OfficeMax and Republic Bank.

“We are grateful to the JCTC Foundation and the community for embracing and supporting the college and the students who come here to transform their lives,” said Dr. Tony Newberry, president of JCTC.
